Our society is nowadays afflicted with fierce storm of violence. In the contemporary globalised society, we notice that violence is alarmingly increasing day by day. All wise values of life like love, compassion and peace seem to have no validity for most people in all parts of the world. There are almost daily reports of patricide, matricide, fratricide, homiccide, and suicide. Have we become become obsessed with materialistic attitude toward life?
No doubt, we care least for brotherhood and love for othe persons. "The ceremony of innocence is drowned". This is true in all walks of life. The frightening dark cloudsof violence are visible in such news: US, UK preparing to strike Iran, suicide bombers strike NATO contractors, US drone kills several persons in Pak tribal region. The question arises after reading these terrible news: What are our values and views toward other people? It is evident that the wisest section of the society, poets and philosophers have no clue to resolve this crisis created by the complete loss of humane values in our world today. It is very ttragic and ironical that the sadists and wicked are endowed with a frenzied conviction in violence, and the wisest prophets and sages today are devoid of any firm belief. We have forgot the basic truth that violence can never solve the problen. Violence leads to more violence. Martin Luther King Jr. aptly remarks that violence increases more hatred: "The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth." These are really very profound and noble reflections. We should ponder over these very impressive words so that our society might become a better place to live in This quote confirms that hatred is the chief vice that should be removed from the society. The blunder commited by the people is that instead of removing the hatred, they murder the hater. This results in increased hatred. The fact is that if we are guided by a wrong doctrine "returning hate for hate", we are in fact turning our world into dark hell. In other words, violence and hatred can be driven out only by love.
